Challenges in Microsoft Project 2010

Now it become clear that unless the EPM Consultant has a deep knowledge in Portfolio, Program and Project Management he/she can't get the maximum benefits from Microsoft project server 2010 for the organizations.

Technical Work now went back and business work come ahead. to be only a good in the installation and technical support this will not help you anymore to be EPM consultant.

Microsoft did a wonderful job in the new version of Microsoft Project 2010, really the new version will help the large and medium organization to enhance there investment, standardize the process , Manage demands and Manage resources more effectivel but this will stop many of technicians-who clam for long time that they are gurus in MS Project - to continue do a successful configuration.

Microsoft Project 2010 is very easy to install but it needs seniors and deep experience in the business itself to get the maximum benefit from it.

I found hundreds of technical people just install and configure the Microsoft EPM 2007 and run away after that the companies can't use it in a sufficient way.

In my e-mail box I have many requests from big and medium organizations who are suffering now from the bad implementation and need my help to get benefits from the system.
Those companies did a very common mistake from the beginning they assume that if the person is a good technical person he can implement the system successfully.

Microsoft Project 2010 Ignite in Singapore

We Are project 2010 Ready Are you ?

We Are project 2010 Ready Are you ?
This was the slogan for the wonderful event that I attended in Singapore from 2 to 4 Feb 2010.We had 3 days workshop on Microsoft EPM 2010 conducted by Seth Patton , Christophe Fiessinger & Jan Kalis from Microsoft.
In these three days we leaned a lot about Microsoft EPM 2010 family. Now it is very clear that Microsoft project server 2010 really rocks. Microsoft has done a great job, especially when it comes to project lifecycle management it become more realistic and it give the organizations more governance over the projects..

The main enhancement that Microsoft added to this EPM version are:
1 - Single server with end to end PPM capabilities
a - Flexible project capture and initiation
b - Enhance governance through workflow
c - Powerful portfolio selection analytics

2 - Unified Project and Portfolio Management
a - Capture all work in a central repository
b - Simple and Intuitive User Experience

3 - Enhanced Collaboration and Reporting
a - Built on SharePoint Server 2010
b - Connect teams with SharePoint Sync
c - Better time and status reporting
d - Easily create reports and dashboards
e - SharePoint Sync to Project Server 2010
f - Lightweight collaboration through SharePoint Tasks list
g - Sync SharePoint Tasks into Project Server to drive enterprise Resource Management and Reporting
h - Take advantage of richer Project Management capabilities using Project Server

4 - Scalable and Connected Platform
a - Extend Interoperability
b - Simplified Administration
c - Rich Platform Services
d - Developer Productivity

5 - Simple and Intuitive User Experience
a - Get started quicker with the familiar Fluent User Interface
b - Enhanced Contextual menus reveal relevant features
c - Descriptive tooltips
d - Share, print, and publish project information with just one click in Backstage

From my point of view as Project Management Consultnat moving arround the world to support different organizations I like demand managmenet too much because it solve a many problems for different organizations who have many initiatives and limited resources. Demand managment provide a comlete end to end project management solution starting from the idea to business case to schedule tools and a portfolio analysis engine that organizations need to comprehensively manage the demands of their organisations.

You can expect more posts related to Microsoft EPM 2010 in the future on my blog.
