PMI Launches Project Management Global Sustainability Community of Practice

Greetings from PMI’s Project Management Community of Practice.

Realizing the importance of promoting awareness about global sustainability, Project Management Institute (PMI) has launched Project Management Global Sustainability Community of Practice. The primary objective of the community is to advance the understanding about the importance of global sustainability and to provide the knowledge, practices, tools, and techniques to integrate global sustainability into all types of projects, programs and portfolios. This community has been established also to educate the global sustainability community about the value of utilizing project, program and portfolio management to achieve global sustainability.

I am proud to be chosen as the first Community Council Manager of the Project Management Global Sustainability Community of Practice. I hope to turn this community into a vibrant forum which actively pursues economic, social and environmental balance by encouraging project managers to incorporate global sustainability in all current and future projects. The task is challenging and I look forward to teaming with you to advance this noble cause. The main objective of the community is to enhance the awareness of organizations, governments and individuals on matters related to sustainability. The community will also help devise strategies and practical guidelines that lead to more sustainable projects. The Global Sustainability Community of Practice will also serve as an advisory body offering expert opinions and consultancy on matters related to economic, social and environmental stability.

Project Risk Management

"Project Risk Management in not an optional activity: it is essential to successful project management. It should be applied to all projects and hence by included in project plans and operational documents. In this way, it becomes an integral part of every aspect of managing the project, in every phase and in every process group" PMI Practice standard for project Risk Management.

In most of my PMP classes I found some trainees interest in Risk Management but unfortunately I didn't find many companies interest to apply it. My question is where is the problem is it in the people who are not interest to pay more time and effort to manage the risk or in the organizations who accept the risk all time.
I think there is a problem in the understanding of the risk itself , even some of PMPs don't know exactly how to apply risk management.

PMI issued the new standard of Project Risk Management but I think it is not enough for application , I feel that this field still need more effort and improvement to facilitate the application itself.
Risk is surrouneing us from every where , most of the projects fail because of not giving a good attention to the risk management.
I'll start with myself as a Project Management Consultnat and Trainer to give more practical examples and hands on training in how to manage the risks in the project starting from my next Risk Management class in Kuwait I'll focus more on the application more than the theories and see the effect of this.

The Project Management Institute – Arabian Gulf Chapter (PMI-AGC) Kuwait Region will hold a Site Visit on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the Kuwait Oil Company (Kuwait) to visit the Crude Export Facilities Project at NTF, STF & MAA. This will be a valuable opportunity for you to learn about the leading edge professional project management practices adopted by KOC in managing very large, complex, high value projects such as the Crude Export Facilities Project.
